New, used or refurbished shipping container?
The cheapest advertised unit is not automatically the best value. Compare grade, remaining life, intended use, repairs, certification and delivery before deciding.
Common condition descriptions
New / one-trip
Generally the youngest option, with limited freight use and less weathering. Expect some handling marks. It is often chosen for visible conversions, long-term storage and buyers who prioritise appearance.
Cargo-worthy
A used container assessed as structurally suitable for cargo transport at the time of inspection. Confirm certification, inspection validity and acceptance for the intended shipping movement.
Wind- and watertight
Intended to resist ordinary weather entry when closed, but not automatically certified for export. This grade is commonly considered for static storage where appearance is secondary.
Refurbished
A used unit that has received specified repairs or cosmetic work. Ask exactly what was repaired, replaced, treated and painted; the word “refurbished” alone is not a complete condition report.
What to inspect before buying
Choose one-trip when…
Appearance, predictable condition and long-term use matter more than the lowest initial price.
Choose used when…
The unit has been inspected and its grade matches a practical storage or project requirement.
Choose refurbished when…
The documented work, final finish and total cost offer better value than buying and repairing separately.
Ask for current photographs or a physical inspection of the exact container being quoted. Confirm grade, colour, repairs, locking equipment, stock location and delivery terms in writing.

What is a one-trip shipping container?
A one-trip container is generally manufactured overseas, used for one loaded journey and then sold. It may still have handling marks, but it normally has less age and wear than a used fleet container.
Can a wind- and watertight container be used for export?
Do not assume so. Export use requires appropriate structural condition, certification and acceptance for the intended movement. Confirm the specific unit and shipping requirements before purchase.
What should be checked on a used container?
Inspect the roof, walls, corner posts, understructure, floor, door gear, seals, corrosion, repairs, odour and signs of water entry. Confirm the unit number and any required certification.
